Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) — Beyonce won six Grammys, the most by a female performer in one year, including best song for “Single Ladies,” while country singer Taylor Swift took home the album of the year award for “Fearless.”

Beyonce’s awards also included best R&B song and best contemporary R&B album at the 52nd annual ceremony broadcast yesterday on CBS from Staples Center in Los Angeles. Swift, nominated for eight Grammys, took home four.

Grammy awards can help lift sales for artists as the industry continues to grapple with shrinking demand for CDs. Beyonce, 28, who records for Sony Music Entertainment, won five Grammys in 2005. Swift’s “Fearless,” released in 2008 by Big Machine Records, was last year’s top-selling album and has sold 5.4 million copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

“This is the dream come true,” Swift said. “I’m going to celebrate for the rest of my life.”

Swift, 20, is the youngest artist to win album of the year. She beat out “The E.N.D.” by The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga’s “The Fame,” Dave Matthews Band’s “Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King” and Beyonce’s “I Am… Sasha Fierce.”

Kings of Leon won three Grammys including record of the year and best rock song for “Use Somebody.” The band, who record for Sony’s RCA Records, was also recognized for best rock performance by a duo or group with vocals. Both Kings of Leon and Swift are from Nashville, Tennessee.
